New Recycling and Leaf Bins Available at Town Hall

Drop-off spots give residents chance to get rid of non-trash items

Barnegat residents now have the chance to unload recyclables and lawn waste within the township in between regular pickups.

Barnegat Township Committeeman Al Bille announced the installation of new recycling bins behind Barnegat's at a recent committee meeting, noting that they offer a helpful option for households who find that their cans are overflowing before their every-other-week recycling pickup day comes around.

"It's a little convenience for people in between their recycling week," Bille said.

The bins are located directly behind the Barnegat Police Department and are accessible by the municipal complex entrances on Bay Avenue. The bins, which are completely open on one side for easy filling and emptying, are cleared on about a daily basis by members of Barnegat's public works department, said Bille.

One is for leaves, which residents are asked to deposit loose and unbagged.

The other is for single-stream recyclables, and can receive the following:

  • aluminum and steel cans
  • plastic and glass jars and bottles
  • mixed paper
  • computer paper
  • newspaper
  • magazines
  • junk mail
  • cardboard

Barnegat Township switched to every-other-week recycling pickup at the beginning of 2011, which officials said offered a significant savings by freeing up workers to do other jobs.
