Second Winter Wallop Heading Our Way

National Weather Service issues a winter weather advisory for today, some schools close ahead of snow

by Patricia A. Miller

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for most of Southern New Jersey, with falling temperatures and between two to four inches of snow.

Expect a period of "moderate to heavy snow" by midday and into the afternoon. The snow will gradually taper off to flurries by 5 p.m., the weather service said.

Roads will be slippery and visibility will be limited during the heaviest periods of snow. Winds will be from the northwest at five to 10 miles per hour, with gusts up to 20 miles per hour.

Temperatures will dip below freezing later today and remain at or below freezing for the remainder of the work week, the NWS said.

Today's storm marks the second snowfall in less than two days in Ocean County. Some areas received more than six inches on Sunday.

Some area schools have closed ahead of the snow. They include Brick Township, Toms River, Manchester, Southern Regional and Stafford Township. Barnegat Township, Central Regional and Lacey Township schools will have an early dismissal.
