Stafford Township officials are putting together a letter to the Department of Environmental Protection that voices several arguments objecting to FEMA's flood advisory maps.
"Frankly to me, it does not make any sense," said Mayor John Spodofora, at the regular committee meeting this week.
Trevor Taylor of CME Associates appeared at the meeting and detailed some of the township's objections to the maps. Stafford is just one of many towns with objections.

"The main thing we're taking a look at is the reality of having a 3-foot wave coming through Beach Haven West," Taylor said. "That is not possible based on existing elevations and what we saw with Superstorm Sandy."
Taylor also said the township is concerned because the maps were released without a wave model having been constructed.

Spodofora said that a second version of the maps are due out in August, and it is the township's hope that FEMA will consider these objections in these second round of maps.
Spodofora noted that township officials are also working with officials on Long Beach Island to urge the rebuilding of the dunes on the island.
"We certainly are behind them on getting the dunes repaired and getting them structurally contained," he said. "And quite frankly, I don't care too much if it ruins someones view of the ocean. The state has to protect the island, because now we've seen [after Sandy] what happens when those dunes breach."
