Temperatures To Plummet By Nearly 40 Degrees By Monday Night

A smoky fog settled over Ocean County Sunday night, caused by warmer temperatures clashing with frozen ground.

Although the thermometer read roughly 50 degrees shortly after midnight, don't expect that to last. Rain is expected until roughly 1 p.m.

Then the southwest winds will switch to west in the afternoon and the deep freeze begins again.

The National Weather Service is calling for temperatures to drop to 37 degrees in the afternoon, and then plunge to 8 degrees by Monday night, with a wind chill of -3 degrees. Skies will be partly cloudy.

It's hardly worth going out Tuesday, with an expected high of only 14 degrees and wind chills of - 9 degrees. The winds will be from the west at a brisk 23 miles per hour, with gusts up to 34 miles per hour.

Tuesday night will be mostly clear with a low of 7 degrees.

Temperatures will begin to warm as the week progresses, actually hitting the low 50s by the weekend. So there is an end to this.
