Township Unveils New Website

Municipal site gets user-friendly makeover

Barnegat Township rolled out its new and improved  website this week, offering residents news and information on what officials say is a cleaner, easier-to-use platform.

Township Clerk Sharon Auer and Toms River-based contractor Web Alliance "collaborated over the past month to create a new, enhanced website that's much more user-friendly," said Mayor Jeffrey Melchiondo at Monday night's township committee meeting.

The site redesign cost the township about $3,000, said Township Administrator David Breeden.

The content of the website remains largely the same, Auer said, but the look is improved, and items have been rearranged. Instead of a left-side menu, info topics are now presented as tabs with drop-down menus across the top of the page, with topics for municipal departments, township committee, code books and more.

An improved calendar page lets readers mouse over events for more information, and a smaller version of the calendar shows up on each page for quick reference. A "Things To Do" tab highlights upcoming events and recreation offerings. Recent comments from Mayor Jeffrey Melchiondo and photo galleries are also accessible from each page of the website.

There are still a few bugs to work out, Melchiondo said Monday: As of yet, there's no place to post upcoming meeting agendas. A fix is expected soon.
