Barnegat Keeps B South Title for Itself

Smthman's four TDs help the Bengals lock up first divisional title for 6-year-old program

Senior running back David Smithman scored four touchdowns and Mark McCoy passed for two more as Barnegat beat Pinelands, 63-0, in Barnegat on Thanksgiving to clinch the Bengals' first divisional championship.

The Bengals (7-4, 4-1) scored 35 points in the first quarter as it left no doubt that it was going to take the Shore Conference Class B South title for itself. Barnegat came into the game tied with Central and Manchester for the division lead, thanks to the Bengals' early loss to Manchester and Manchester's loss to Central, but the victory over the winless Wildcats put Barnegat in sole possession of the crown.

Barnegat, which started playing varsity football in 2006, also set a school record for wins in a season as the Bengals tallied the most points they've ever scored in a game.

McCoy then threw a 16-yard TD pass to senior tight end Ryan Morris, who's headed to Purdue next fall, and Smithman followed with his first TD.
