Bridge Walk Raises $9,000 for Local Schools

Money will be divided among three local districts

A bridge walk held this past weekend raised about $9,000 for Stafford, Southern Regional and Long Beach Island School Districts, according to an event planner with the walk.

The Parent-Teacher Associations of Stafford Township Schools and the Long Beach Island School District with the Special Education PTA of the Southern Regional School District hosted their Third Annual Community Bridge Walk event on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The opening ceremonies for the walk started at 9:30 and the walk started at 10 a.m. from Mud City Crab House in Stafford. The theme this year was luau, and featured Hawaiian Luau Show dancers at Mud City and at the Ship Bottom Park and the National Anthem performed by Chris Fritz.

Corinne G. Ruff, an event planner who helped organize the event, said the number of walkers exceeded the number of walkers they had last year, which was about 1,800, but she did not have an exact count.

"We bridged our communities and put our best foot forward for education," Ruff told Patch.
