Closing the Books on the School Year

School's out for Barnegat students after Thursday, when the high school graduates its seniors

Barnegat students bid farewell for the summer this Thursday, and the week ahead is chock full of goodbye events.

High school underclassmen are on a half-day schedule every day this week as they tackle exams. Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will be dismissed at 11:10 a.m. each day. There will be no cafeteria service or activity busing this week.

Half days start tomorrow for elementary and middle school students. The elementary schools will end the day at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, while the Brackman School will let out at 11:48 a.m.

High school seniors will be occupied with graduation practice each morning. Rehearsal is from 7:20 to 11 a.m. tomorrow and Wednesday and from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday.A senior slideshow presentation will take place before rehearsal Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

There will be an awards assembly at at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. is marking the end of the school year with class picnics and a Wednesday dance-a-thon with the entire student body and staff. will have an awards assembly for the second, third and fourth grades Tuesday and another for kindergarten, first and fifth grade Wednesday.

's eighth grade promotion ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the school.

On Thursday, seniors will line up at 's football field at 5 p.m. for the start of graduation ceremonies. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the school gym.

Graduation itself takes place from 6 p.m. to between 7 and 7:30 p.m. at the football field, followed by the handing out of diplomas. Project Graduation – a riverboat trip for seniors around New York – runs from 9:30 p.m. Thursday to 6:30 a.m. Friday.
