PHOTOS: Donahue Kids Pitch in With Trash Pick-up

Elementary students joined in Barnegat Bay Blitz effort

Students from Joseph T. Donahue Elementary School elementary joined the Department of Environmental Protection's Barnegat Bay Blitz effort yesterday, holding their own trash pickup on school grounds a day after bad weather forced them to postpone participating in the watershed-wide cleanup.

Kids in all grades donned gloves and gathered garbage from grassy and wooded areas all over the school property, overseen by teachers who marked down data on the kind of trash collected.

The DEP's first-annual Blitz event drew volunteers from all over the state with the goal of keeping trash out waterways that drain to the bay. Read more about it here.
