Memorial 5K This Weekend At Southern, Fundraiser on Sunday

All proceeds from the 5K event will benefit the John R. Entrikin Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Two fundraisers are being hosted by Southern Regional this weekend, according to discussions at the Southern Regional Board of Education meeting earlier this week.

The Second Annual John R. Entrikin Memorial 5K Race will be held at Southern Regional High School on Oct. 13. Registration begins at 6:45 a.m. with the race beginning at 8:00 a.m. Entrance fee is $25 the morning of the event.

All proceeds from this event will benefit the John R. Entrikin Memorial Scholarship Fund. Mr. Entrikin, a 1965 graduate of Southern, was a beloved teacher at Southern for 33 years and a coach for 25 years.

Last year, the race had more than 50 sponsors and 123 participants. With the proceeds, four scholarships of $1250 each were awarded to graduating seniors from the class of 2012.

In other Southern news, the Southern Regional Student Council will be hosting a miniature golf tournament at Hartland Mini Golf in Ship Bottom on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.. The cost to play will be $5 for Southern students and children, and $8 for adults.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to the charity “Hugs for Brady Foundation”, which helps families of children with cancer and funds pediatric cancer research.

Each year the NJASC (New Jersey Association of Student Councils) chooses one charity to help. All of the student council’s in the state work toward this charity. “Hugs for Brady” was founded in memory of Brady Michael Wells.
