UPDATE: Car Wash Fundraiser Moved to Brackman

Bengal cheerleaders to give back in memory of former Board of Education member Sally Germano

The cheerleaders are holding a car wash this Saturday, Sept. 3, to raise money in honor of Sally Germano, the former Board of Education member and high school booster club leader who passed away last weekend.

Cheerleading coach Shannon Smith said Germano had long been a big supporter of the cheer squad, which has become a top-ranked national program in recent years.

"She was always there for us," said Smith. "She would email me before every single competition and say, 'I'm so proud of them.' "

Germano's positive, upbeat nature was loved by many in the school system and beyond, and she worked hard to help raise money for the district's sports programs, said Smith.

"She dedicated her life for others," Smith said. "We just want to do something in her memory, because she's done so much for us."

Proceeds from the car wash will go to the Barnegat Education Foundation in Germano's name.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at , 550 Barnegat Blvd. North. (The event was previously scheduled to held at the Collins School, but was moved.) The cost is $5 per car, and any other donations offered will be gratefully accepted.
