Spray Beach Patrol Sips Victory From Mayor's Cup

The beach patrol teams from Spray Beach and Holgate were neck and neck for the lead going into the last two events in this year’s Long Beach Township Mayor’s Cup Beach Patrol competition on Saturday in Brant Beach.

Then Chloe Wiskow took first in the Iron Woman and Steve Campoli grabbed the gold in the Men’s 1500 Paddleboard race to bring the cup home for Spray Beach.

Holgate fell to third behind Beach Haven Crest based on a series of tie breakers that came down to the number of second place finishes each team had in the competition’s16 events, said event coordinator Joe Howarth. “The Crest and Holgate were tied on points and first place finishes, so the second place finishes was the tie breaker,” he said.

This was 30th anniversary of the completion that divides the township’s more than 150 lifeguards into five regional teams from North Beach/Loveladies in the north to Holgate in the south. Brant Beach, Beach Haven Crest and Spray Beach comprise the mid-island teams, said Howarth.
Brant Beach came in forth and North Beach/Loveladies was fifth this year, said Howarth.
