UPDATE: Stafford Opens Bids For New Liquor License.

Stafford Township is now conducting a public sale through sealed bids for the sale of a Class C license for the retail consumption of alcohol, according to a press release issued by the township clerk’s office on Monday.

The approval to conduct the sale was enacted in a resolution passed by the Township Council at a meeting earlier this month. It is due to the population of the township meeting the criteria to issue another license, said Mayor John Spodofora at the meeting.

According to the state Alcohol Beverage Commission (ABC), a retail Class C consumption license, “permits the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the licensed premises by the glass or other open container.”

In addition it states, “No activity may take place on the licensed premises except for certain activities such as the operation of a restaurant, hotel, or bowling establishment or the sale of snack(s) or certain other items specifically mentioned in the statue.”

The bids will be opened on May 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at the township municipal building. All bids must be sealed and submitted to the Township Clerk no later than that time and date, according to the release.

The minimum acceptable bid is $500,000, and the township reserves the right to not accept the highest bid and to reject any and all bids offered.
The release also said, bids will only be accepted from those who qualify under the New Jersey statutes pertaining to intoxicating liquors and the rules and regulations promulgated by the ABC.

At the time of submitting the bids, all bidders shall enclose with their bid written proof to the Township Clerk they qualify and submit in cash or certified check a ten percent (10%) deposit of the amount of their bid.
