Work has begun in areas of Brant Beach and Harvey Cedars.

Work has begun in areas of Brant Beach on a $30.6 million beach replenishment program that will also include Harvey Cedars and Surf City.

The Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company will pump 3 million cubic yards of sand to rebuild engineered beaches in these Long Beach Island that were affected by Superstorm Sandy, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in a statement recently.

Despite certain areas of the beaches being closed at different times, town officials are encouraging everyone to pick up an early seasonal beach badge - on sale until June 15 -  for the warm weather that is just around the corner.

Currently, an approximately 5 block area in Brant Beach near 41st Street is closed as the work in now underway. The rest of Brant Beach's oceanfront is open. The closed section will move along with the work as the replinishment moves north and south to rebuild the original project area from 31st to 56th streets.
