Daily Beach Badge Sales Up in Beach Haven

More than 100 lifeguard assists so far this summer

Overall beach badge sales in Beach Haven this year are up from last year by 767, according to the Borough Manager.

Richard S. Crane said total beach badge revenues are around $432,000 for the year so far, with 22,841 badges sold. He said a large number of those are daily badges, which means, "many people are getting up in the morning and deciding this is a good place to go to the beach." Daily beach badges in Beach Haven are $5, and weekly are $20. Preseason beach badges are sold for $30, and seasonal are sold for $40.

Crane added that increase in people has also equated to a busy year for local lifeguards. The Borough's lifeguards reported 107 rescues and 84 first aid calls in July alone, 11 of which required emergency medical responders.

"This is one of the warmest years on record when it comes to water temperatures, so the water is very inviting, but we want to encourage everyone to be careful," Crane said.

According to a handout from the Beach Haven Beach Patrol, Beach Haven lifeguard stands are staffed each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., . Lifeguard stands in Beach Haven are located from 12th Street south to Leeward Avenue. The handout advises beachgoers to swim near a lifeguard, not fight the current, and understand beach warning flags to stay safe.
