Water Restriction In Barnegat To Last Until Friday

Lawn irrigation ban in place that will last until a township well is fixed.

Barnegat's watering prohibition will be in effect until Friday at 6 p.m.

A ban has been placed on lawn irrigation that uses Barnegat township water. Due to the storms that came through the area over the weekend, one of the well pumps for the township water supply was damaged, according to Utility Manager Roger Budd.

“The township has five wells to supply water, and the pump on well number five was damaged. We hope to have it replaced by Friday,” Budd said. “This measure is just precautionary in case the temperature rises. We don’t want to put a strain on the water system.”

The water pump was the only item in the water system affected by the storms; the water quality was not compromised in any way, Budd said.
