GALLERY: Relay for Life Raised Close To $40,000

"When You Wish Upon A Cure:" Fun, games and friendship in honor of Relay for Life 2012.

The third annual Relay For Life ceremony kicked off on Friday, May 18, with games, races, music and more. Fundraising continued into the late hours, though some participants say music was shut down after residents complained about too much noise. According to the annual Relay For Life tradition fundraising activities and ceremonies continue all night in communities all over the country, from 6 p.m. on a Friday until 6 a.m. on a Saturday, because "cancer never sleeps."

Despite the disruption, 375 participants working in 38 local teams raised $39,431 for cancer research, victims and patiens support and community awareness. About 25 cancer survivors attended a special surviviors' dinner.

The top three teams were Rev It Up at $8,125, Cancer Shakers at $5,295 and "Brackman Bulldogs Beating Cancer at $4,982. Christine Revello, Colleen Shives and Kyle McGetrick were this year's three top participants.
