Wanted: Forever Homes For A Very Patient Cat and Dog

By Patricia A. Miller

Meet James:

James the tabby cat has seen them come and seen them go. For nearly five years at the Animal Haven Farm at the Popcorn Park Zoo, he has patiently waited for his forever home.
But somehow this beautiful boy has been overlooked, through no fault of his own. James is almost 6 years old and was found as a stray back in 2008.

"Someone started feeding James and he became very friendly," said Sandy Hickman, an Associated Humane Societies employee. "But they could not keep him due to a new baby. James is a very playful kitty that just loves people. He is very affectionate and would love to be a lap cat."

James would prefer a home with no dogs or small children, but does get along with some cats, she said.

"Please come and meet our dear boy James, and let him know there is a home for everyone," Hickman said.

Meet Beyonce:

Beyoncé had a rough beginning in life. She came to Popcorn Park from North Caroline where she was picked up as a stray. The pit mix pup had such a bloated belly that x-rays were done.

"It turns our her belly was full of bones and garbage," Hickman said. "Who knows how long this young lady was out on her own, starving and looking for something to eat?"

The pup practically crawled to park workers when she arrived, wagging her tail between her legs, she said.

Beyonce was unsure of people when she first arrived and automatically flinched and cringed when park workers reached out to pet her, Hickman said.

"After a few minutes and more shy tail wagging, Beyonce decided that we were okay in her book, and her shy tail wag turned into a whole body wiggle, as she crawled right up into our lap," she said.

The dog loves attention, affection and kindness and will often reach out a paw if someone stops petting her, Hickman said.

Beyonce loves to go for walks and play. She's in great health and needs a home where she can run, play and get exercise. She would prefer a home with no other dogs or cats, but loves people, said Hickman.

"Let's show Beyonce the good side of the human race, and get her the wonderful home that she's dreaming of! " Hickman said.
