This free municipal bathing beach is a favorite spot for swimming and sunning in summer months, and a great location for bay vistas and birdwatching year-round. Stand on the water's edge and get a glimpse of Barnegat Lighthouse across the bay. A shallow, roped-off swimming area is manned by lifeguards on summer days. A small pavilion provides shaded seating, and freshwater shower heads let sandy beachgoers rinse off before heading home.

I agree with JW. Love that Barnegat has a nice beach that is maintained
well, but non-Barnegat residents should have to pay a beach pass fee.
Even a weekly pass for $2.00, and a seasonal pass for $10.00, helps pay
for the lifeguard, beach cleanup, and repair and maintenance of the facilities.

Why is Barnegat Twp. beach free to anyone it should be for residents only since my tax pay to maintain. It is a very small beach area during the months of July & August the beach is full when it's sunny & hot you have the people of the town, day campers and you got plenty of out of towners.
For the people of the town give some sort of ID to get on the beach and charge non-residents a fee.
Also take down the sign on Main St & East Bay ave south advertising the bathing beach (free beach) Lets hear from somebody!!
