The trail is a great asset for Barnegat. I see more and more people enjoying it every day. I wish, however, that Lochiel Creek Park would get some much-needed attention . The rail trail and this hidden gem compliment each other perfectly but few people even realize where the park is or how they can access it from the trail. Also, can Lacey quit holding up the trail's completion? Really looking forward to the day I can bike to Toms River along the trail's full length
Barnegat Branch Trail
This county-owned linear park occupies an old railroad bed that runs 15.6 miles from Barnegat to Toms River. A bike trail covers a 3.1-mile stretch from Burr Street in Barnegat to Route 532 in Waretown, with parking at Burr Street and Waretown's Country Lane.
The county plans to extend the trail along the length of the rail right-of-way in future phases of the project.
The 10-foot-wide trail is paved with stone dust – easy to walk or bike on – and is popular with nearby residents.
- Handicap Accessible: Yes
- Founding Date: 2007
- Parking: Free lot
- Are there any interesting facts about this location?: The trail's logo reflects that of the now-defunct Central Railroad of NJ, which operated on the railbed now occupied by the trail.
- Features: Benches

The trail is great and only getting better as they complete more parts. They have finally approved getting it past Oyster Creek.
