'I will not forget the quick reply and action Heritage House has taken.'
This customer would like to thank David, the owner of Heritage House Furniture at 408 North Main St.(Rt.9), Barnegat, for being an exceptional and caring businessman. In this day and age, it is rare to find a business owner who cares about his reputation and has concern for a customer rather than; quite bluntly, dollars. This lovely shop specializes in quality rattan, wicker, upholstered furniture and other unique accessories for the home. I have a problem with new furniture items. It seems I have extreme reactions to odors caused by either chemicals? and/or materials? used in new furniture items. I thought that rattan-framed furniture with removable zippered cushions would be a solution. I ordered a beautiful rattan loveseat (Gatsby) from…
Barnegat Mayor notes that new sirens are being tested by Office of Emergency Management.
A three-minute full volume siren will be activated within Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station’s emergency planning zone at 9 a.m., and four times throughout the day on May 29. The sirens will also go off for shorter test periods on May 23 at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and on May 30. The system will sound as a part of Exelon’s comprehensive emergency preparedness program. This test is not a signal to evacuate, according to Barnegat Township Mayor Len Morano, who spoke about the test at the Township Committee meeting last night. "It will sound pretty loud but don't everyone panic when you hear it," Morano said. Although Oyster Creek conducts electronic testing of its sirens on a weekly basis, this is an annual test, issued by Exelon …

The bill was signed into law by then-governor Jon Corzine in 2010.
Toms River resident Michael Colavito has never been asked to stop smoking electronic cigarettes, otherwise known as e-cigarettes, whenever he’s been in a restaurant or bar. As far as he knew, there would be no reason for that to happen. However, an amendment to New Jersey’s Smoke-Free Air Act of 2006, passed by then-governor Jon Corzine on Jan. 11, 2010, made it illegal to do just that. Yes, smoking e-cigarettes inside is illegal. Bill A4227/4228 was the first of its kind in the entire country, and a copy of the legislation is attached to this story. “The legislation was introduced in 2009 and voted on unanimously,” said Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini (R-11), one of the sponsors who helped get the law passed. “Both the Senate and the …
Planning a vacation or just a day trip? Patch has all the information on the Shore's best beaches
More than six months after Superstorm Sandy caused unprecedented damage to the Jersey Shore region, the beaches will be open for Memorial Day Weekend and the summer. While certain access points and facilities might be closed as municipalities continue to work on restoration, for the most part, the beaches will be operational. The only beach that remains off limits to the public is Mantoloking. The borough was home to a breach that split Ocean County's northern barrier island in half and was one of the hardest hit communities in New Jersey during the storm. So as you prepare to stick your toes in the sand, are you wondering what will be accessible after Sandy? Need to know how much it will cost to buy badges to your favorite beach? Curious …

Roar to Restore the Shore attracted at least 1,600 participants.
The 1,600 or more participants in the 66-mile Roar to Restore the Shore motorcycle run yesterday were greeted with smiling faces, waving hands, and even some checks for their cause along the route. “You heard Sandy roar this past October, now hear us roar to reclaim our shore,” was the catch phrase that area residents Jack Sharkey and Mark Pearson used to urge their fellow riders to action. Sharkey and Pearson - both originally from the Brick area - had family and friends lose homes during Superstorm Sandy, and decided, in Sharkey's words, "over a few beers in a bar" to ride to raise funds for Sandy relief. The organizers decided to donate any money raised to the Mary Pat Christie’s Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, the American …
