Any information on who got cut and what their positions were?
Esther Libenschek April 11, 2014 at 05:55 pm
So in order to let Common Core technology in the door we must let common sense in the form ofRead More dedicated staff, greeters, teachers and teacher's assistants out the door? What are we teaching our children other than the government is reaching into their classrooms under the guise of knowing what's better for them more than a person who has dedicated their lives educating themselves to educate our kids? Perhaps I don't understand the value of this mandated program because I was taught by loving teachers who helped me not only learn out of text books but by their example of hard work and service with their only goal being to open my mind and help me think for myself.

She will drop out and become a pol dancer!

So factchecker, you're in favor of lowering the common denominator for exceptional students, down toRead More the level of students from well-funded inner-city students, who have less-talented teachers, that simply indoctrinate the kids with WHAT to think, so they can pass a test! Boy, that really makes sense.
Brian Hurrel April 18, 2014 at 06:27 am
@golfer: Please provide proof of your contention that charter school teachers are superior to publicRead More school teachers. Some charter schools have yearly turnover rates approaching 50%. This hardly makes for a stable environment or any kind of continuity. Charters also pay less and many are so desperate for staff, due to their lack of protections, benefits, and in some cases deplorable working conditions, not to mention unqualified administrators, that they will hire anyone who comes in the door. There are good charter schools but there are just as many bad ones as well. Why do you think some of them get shut down? You then cast aspersions on the motives of public school supporters. Frankly you sound like a paid shill for reformists. Or a conspiracy theorist with you "indoctrination" nonsense. Save the insults next time any there's a chance you might be taken seriously.

The schools will have plenty of funds. Funds are not the problem. Schools have multimillion dollarRead More budgets and are failing our kids.

Waretown doesn't rate? We're closed too...
PineyMike March 17, 2014 at 11:24 am
Waretown is part of the Southern Regional School District. Haven't you ever read the names on theRead More side of the bus?

The headline is dishonest. Requiring SS numbers is an infringement on all American citizens.Read More Requiring proof of residency is quite different. I can not register my kids for school without proving I live in town... Yeah, seems this is a reasonable requirement considering tax payers foot the bill! You do not need to give out your social security number to sign up for school. Nice scare tactic.
Bob Roberts April 21, 2014 at 10:24 am
@MSS - no, they ARE NOT paying property taxes as tenants. They are paying rent. They have noRead More ownership nor obligation to the property; it belongs to someone else. Talk about twisting things.
Bob Roberts April 21, 2014 at 10:28 am
Proof of legal citizenship, not social security numbers given to the school.

That is why most colleges award Merit Money based upon SAT scores.

If this is true my dog could probably be eligible if he went through the Brick school system.
Rick Ricky March 15, 2014 at 02:05 pm
Schools in general is nothing but fakes. Not even close to accurate. To many reasons to list. YouRead More have to many dishonest people involved in the outcome in changes that shouldn't be. Yes, schools play to make it look one way that is not even close to what it should be. They rig the outcome to make their school look good for certain students who they might have a connection with in some way. You can have students who rank higher in lower level classes that are not even close in comparison that has no business being 2 or 3 in a class.

5th and 6th graders need batting cages???? - someone is getting a windfall here for sure and theRead More taxpayers are definitely downwind of it
SH Resident March 15, 2014 at 12:22 am
Hey Joe-90% tax rate existed with a number of signifigant loopholes that resulted in a nominal taxRead More rate in the mid 40s for the highest earners...stop getting your talking points from MSNBC and think for yourself. and even if you took every dollar from the top 10% of earners in this nation, we would still have a deficit...spending is the issue, not revenue....do you get that fact or does your hatred for the wealthy cloud your ability to digest reality...
Joe R March 15, 2014 at 08:51 am
Hey SH, in the 1950s, the top marginal tax rate was 91% and the effective tax rate was about 51%Read More after the loopholes. Oh, so we don't have loopholes today??!? Ha, ha, ha. The current top marginal tax rate is 39.6% but that's before all the loopholes. The effective tax rate is even lower than 39.6%. JFK eliminated many of the loopholes and reduced the top marginal tax rate to 74%. That works for me.
SH Resident March 15, 2014 at 07:02 pm
Joe-I will agree to raise the marginal tax rate to 50%...what programs other than defense do youRead More propose to cut? Exactly none is probably your answer...cutting defense and raising taxes does not get us to a balanced budget...we need to cut spending...you socialists never seem to get that point...and moreover, how about EVERYONE has some skin in the game and has to pay some income tax.... you will never want to cut spending on social programs because then how will you bribe low information voters to win elections?

A dusting of Snow and they make a decision, already? Will they be in school the 4th of July? TheRead More Wusification of America Continues!

Who wants to listen to that at 5:a.m. in the morning. I would have hung up. Not cute. Save your soRead More called talent for the school talent show.

I thought this was very funny. I even played it back for friends as we danced around the room. IRead More believe it is the quirky stuff in life that makes it all worth it. We all need a giggle every now and then and this passed dumb and went 180 degrees back to funny. If you want to see serious meet us in Washington DC March 16th 2014 for a mass protest against corruption when the mace and flashbangs start being thrown by police you will have a new respect for the little giggles in life. anonymous

Jim, Geez you are the one who can't be that ignorant yourself. You couldn't be more wrong and inRead More denial. Nothing jives with any of these tests. They compare SAT's and some schools average 1535 total and think that is good. I think that score is unacceptable. Just a little over what the state requires. The H.S. do little or just enough to get by. Just passing is good enough for them. You have schools who some considered top schools bragging how great they are getting average sat's at 1545. @Speedz..You are right on and I agree it is hard to figure out what makes sense versus real.

Here's what I measure when considering schools- and this applies directly to Montclair and allRead More districts- Has my child been taught to be an independent thinker, an active problem solver, willing to take on challenges, work as part of a team, and the confidence to work independently? Has my child met a teacher who has motivated him/her to be their best academic self and created a lifelong learner? That's how success is measured. Numbers/statistic can be tugged, pulled, hidden, adjusted, and manipulated. The cold hard facts that your child has the attributes previously listed above is the true measure. That's done here in Montclair and other districts in New Jersey and beyond- or at least it was true before the core curriculum standards and the broads invaded.
ED April 12, 2014 at 11:54 am
esther, You have a few things right. Numbers/Statistics can be tugged, pulled, hidden, adjusted andRead More manipulated. By Who? The same people who are running the schools and handing in these reports. Everything in NJ is corrupted.

she was a great driver's ed, physical educational, coach, mentor, behind the wheel instructor. SheRead More brought southern a lot of wins in field hockey and basketball. she will be greatly missed by all and loved by all that she touched/taught/seen

They will probably let us know at 7AM. Just like on Tuesday they let us know we had half day atRead More 10:00AM. School was dismissed at 1PM. With All Saints getting out at 12:45, LCA at 1:00 and Waretown at 1:00, the people who make that decision should get there heads together and be a lot more organized. I guess that is why they get paid the big bucks.
