NJFMBA President Eddie Donnelly addresses the assembled public union members protesting Gov. Christie's appearance near a memorial to a slain teacher to attack their pension plans.
jojo112452 July 25, 2014 at 12:32 am
So what is a promise, Governor...YOU are one of those leaders who made a promise about publicRead More pensions...YOUR word means NOTHING, for our state or for OUR country! The nation needs to realize this before the election!
Brandy the Dog July 25, 2014 at 03:02 am
Believe me jojo112452 He will not even win the Republican nomination! The rest of the country willRead More not be as foolish as we were in NJ.

While I think this is a wonderful idea. I question the amount of congestion this will cause on 72Read More east as cars slow down to exit. also if there are so few parking spots will there be a gate that closes when the parking lots are full or will the traffic just back up on 72?
One of several projects bonded at Tuesday's meeting is the construction a new community center on East Bay Avenue.
Mac March 20, 2014 at 03:25 pm
so much for future services - 2% cap - two buildings, much like our schools, built by insiders whoRead More build things to need lots and lots of maintenance and repairs - several years of shrinking population before area rebuilt - grants in question for expanded replacements - higher, higher and higher taxes for sure - but you have some new metal sheds - isn't Republican government priceless?
Mac March 20, 2014 at 03:28 pm
I think the annual barrage of Republican/Gilmore glossy campaign flyers promise you more bang forRead More your bucks. And when it comes to more of your money, Gilmore and his lackeys always deliver as promised.
Mike Mazzucca March 20, 2014 at 04:27 pm
The argument made by our Mayor is that when the storm hit FEMA and Emergency mgmt. had no where toRead More go. Additionally the 5000 sf building going back by the old original community center is intended to bring more traffic to the bay ave business community. The harsh reality is, if you can lower taxes, there's more disposable income for families to go out and enjoy restaurants and stores and spend in your community. Community centers serve one purpose, and that is to provide gathering places for organizations. They do not generate income that sustains them....but they should.
Stafford Township is now accepting sealed bids for a new alcohol consumtion license.

"The old Pathmark building would be perfect for a 'Hooters' restaurant..."
Lincoln Osiris March 19, 2014 at 11:04 pm
Isn't it convenient that the township reserves the right to not accept the highest bid and to rejectRead More any and all bids offered??? That leaves the door wide open for political cronyism and back room deals. But isn't that the way things are done in Stafford? Just look at the mayor's legal appointments in town hall... every GOP operative and official in the county has a job here. More $$$ wasted. www.johnspodofora.com

Unfortunately the main street killer aka Walmart is looking into buying the property that PathmarkRead More sits on. I have heard many different stories from storage to a Super-walmart. Only time will really tell what will really happen to this property but I would put my money on walmart. They have more money then god. If it was up to me I would vote in favor of the boobies.-------anonymous

Could someone clarify what exactly a community center will do? Who uses a center like that? WillRead More it not be empty a large majority of the time???? I do not understand this town. Why don't they invest the money in fixing up the town part. I am not sure what is declared "downtown" also, because by the flea market -it is not really considered a quaint area. Even thought I applaud all the businesses there to try and bring a normalcy to Manahawkin. By the library and park, is where the "small town" feel somewhat is, with the older houses and stores and renovation of the old Cranberry Bog bldg. . And even though it has a major highway running through it, it could be fixed up !!!! Look at Point Pleasant downtown, Red Bank, Chester, Madison, and etc. , why cant we get it together and make a town we can be proud to live in. We certainly don't need a community center for that cost and especially when some of us don't even know what it will do or bring to Stafford ?! I do know one thing - It wont bring revenue.!!!!! Come on Manahawkin, get it together and think of the future for our children and families and visitors-- so we can have a town that people don't cringe when they say they are from Manahawkin. Instead people could say - Oh I love that downtown area. So awesome. NO COMMUNITY CENTER NEEDED. !!! Lots more to say but I will zip it.
Mike Mazzucca March 6, 2014 at 11:01 am
Sandrah...bring it on March 18th so the mayor can hear it first hand. You make some excellent pointsRead More regarding "downtown" Manahawkin. I do believe though that many organizations use the community center and it is quite busy, however it doesn't draw revenues, so it is subsidized by our tax dollars. In essence you're paying for others to use it.
NavyE9r March 6, 2014 at 05:48 pm
I'm going to "Crystal Ball" how the March 18th meeting is going to go. The Mayor and hisRead More inept Councilmembers will listed to all of us pouring our hearts out and then do out what they want to do in their best interest not yours. Any objection or intelligent refute will result in the admonishment by the Senator. The Mayor will have pre-staged pro-agenda speakers who will be selected at opportunistic time to praise him as he so desperately needs. Those people will not have to adhere to the five minute time limit, while the others will be counted to the second. The next time you are at the OA School/community center and you happen to pass and read his Bio for his induction into the Stafford Hall of Fame and you find yourself in awe, just know that a good portion of that was fabricated and is false. He's too arrogant and lacks the intestinal fortitude to to fix it himself.
The old town hall and school district building will be demolished once a new community center is constructed in the parking lot behind it.
Lincoln Osiris February 20, 2014 at 08:33 am
so lets get this straight... According to the administrator all of the money for this project mayRead More or may not be coming from insurance, and according to the mayor the bay avenue center will bring business into the downtown area and the town will get a grant from the state. Questions: if all of the money is coming from insurance why is there any need to pursue grants? there is already a community center on bay avenue that is being used right now so exactly how will a 2 million $ one lure more people to downtown? Why is this being bonded for if the bidding process hasnt even started yet? Why are they bonding for anything if insurance will cover the costs? How will insurance cover the cost of rebuilding the bay ave center when it wasnt even damaged? ##### What is so wrong with obtaining all the insurance money, establishing that as your budget, see what you can build with that budget, bond zero dollars, and move forward with the project. This is just one more example of the fiscal incompetence of this administration and their lack of respect for the taxpayers of Manahawkin. www.johnspodofora.com

Just something they can say they(GOP) have done since they were Elected and Sandy had destroyed allRead More those homes people use to come and vacation in..Give them a chance to pat each other on the back while the houses are being torn down and lots are being sold off a blow out low prices.
Mac February 20, 2014 at 09:29 am
@LO - this is about Gilmore getting his cut of the bonding fees and keeping the backdoor flow ofRead More money coming into the campaign donation racketeering successes - as long as the local taxpayers are there to pick up the costs of these political spoils who really cares if money comes from other taxpayer funds or not - our American Constitution is working quite well for those that care - one gets the same quality of considerations from one's elected officials as the quality of considerations one gives to one's reasoning to vote for that official in the first place, and this is especially true when reelecting that official again and again - in Ocean County, for sure, if it is Republican, it's a public welfare handout

This truly means nothing to a majority of homeowners who actually had claims. If you had a claimRead More from Sandy chances are your carrier dropped you or will drop you. Notice it's for those grandfathered in prior to the storm. Big deal, it's after the storm that matters. Selective Ins. one of the biggest crooks of all time, dropped us without warning. So disappointed in CC and his whole lack of concern for people, the same people that voted him in a second time.
WMS826 February 11, 2014 at 02:44 pm
Ha...but you all voted for Obama...you all thought everything would be free and that the whiteRead More middle class would get some help since he was a man of the people unlike evil Geoorge Bush.....and if you like your doctor you can keep him too.
Mike Mazzucca February 12, 2014 at 08:35 am
Exclude me from that group WMS826..and not for nothing, the only non partisanship effort thatRead More occurred was between Christie and Obama who both lied and promised all that we would need would be provided. So far, one is full of hot air and the other full of something else, you choose which is which.

It is well known within the Veteran Community that he lied about his service. If he will lie aboutRead More something as simple as his service, what else will he lie about is the question you should be asking yourself. To embellish one's service is a disgrace and Stolen Valor.
Chris Sanders January 11, 2014 at 11:25 am
Why is it that political figures have to inflate their service record thinking it will help theirRead More political career? Your mayor's records prove he did not do the things he said he did in the Navy. No one's records are classified, I would rather see him own up to his lies. Ask yourselves this, if he would lie about what he did in the military, what is he lying to you folks about??

Just let's get all those bums out of office! Theirs not a honest one in the bunch. Allls theyRead More want to do is take credit for stuff they had nothing to do with. Lets get some honest elected politicians next time.

We really need people in office that care about BHW residents and the area. They only care aboutRead More getting our tax money. Get a new slate together and I will vote for all of you. Thank God for my family as they done most of the repairs along with a Church group also helping me out. All most done but home can't be raised due to lack of money and being on a waiting list for the grant. Good Luck to you guys!
H Spensel November 13, 2013 at 06:51 pm
And look at the other article posted today. We still have not received any money while other towns,Read More such as Toms river are on their second round of funding. Something is terribly wrong in townhall when we can't get any assistance, yet want to bond $2mil for a recreational facility. There's a high level of arrogance and incompetence with our elected officials and town manager. Vote them out of office soon.
