The stabbing followed an argument and took place just before midnight.
A suspect is still at large following a stabbing Saturday night, May 18, at Hemingway's Cafe. According to Seaside Heights Police Detective Steve Korman, the stabbing was the result of a verbal altercation between two customers at 11:41 p.m. The victim, identified as a 32-year-old male from Bayville, was stabbed in the lower left abdomen and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He has since been treated and released. The suspect fled the scene following the stabbing, and Seaside Heights Police were still searching for him as of 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Roar to Restore the Shore attracted at least 1,600 participants.
The 1,600 or more participants in the 66-mile Roar to Restore the Shore motorcycle run yesterday were greeted with smiling faces, waving hands, and even some checks for their cause along the route. “You heard Sandy roar this past October, now hear us roar to reclaim our shore,” was the catch phrase that area residents Jack Sharkey and Mark Pearson used to urge their fellow riders to action. Sharkey and Pearson - both originally from the Brick area - had family and friends lose homes during Superstorm Sandy, and decided, in Sharkey's words, "over a few beers in a bar" to ride to raise funds for Sandy relief. Swearing study ranked the most and least courteous states in the country.

New Jersey residents were beaten out by Ohio and Maryland in a survey ranking individuals most likely to drop swear words on a complete stranger during a phone conversation. On the flip side, analysis by the Marchex Institute found that Washington, Massachusetts and Arizona topped the list of state residents least likely to lose their cool. Marchex examined more than 600,000 calls over a year that were placed by consumers to businesses in 30 different industries. The mobile advertising company also ranked the most courteous states: South Carolina, North Carolina and Maryland. And the least courteous states: Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Indiana. Paul D. "Pete" McLain's efforts to save the dwindling osprey population back in the 1970s have paid off
Visitors who click on the Friends of Island Beach's osprey cam are often entranced by the sight of the osprey pair keeping watch over their clutch of four rust-and cream-colored eggs. But it wasn't always this easy to keep tabs on the ospreys of Island Beach State Park. Environmental conditions were grim for the large raptor birds back in the early 1970s. Nesting sites were hard to come by, due to the rapid development of wetlands. DDT and other chemicals had been heavily used in 1950s and 1960s for mosquito control and worked their way into the food chain. Osprey nests were dwindling. By 1968 there were only 12 osprey nests at Island Beach State Park. By 1974, the number had dropped to just one. Osprey eggs laid during those years were …

Brick office receives more staff as summer influx expected; Ocean City office permanently destroyed, LBI office renovated
Comcast has said it has rebuilt 144 miles worth of cable infrastructure since Superstorm Sandy struck the Shore area and has hired extra staff for coastal area offices as an influx of seasonal customers is anticipated. Additional customer service employees and 170 extra technicians are to start work May 25, the company said in a statement this week. Additionally, at the company's offices in Brick, Absecon, Avalon, Northfield, Ocean City and Wildwood, the number of workstations "has been nearly doubled to provide more expedited, one-on-one attention for customers," the company said. The state urges customers to consult the database before buying a car
The State Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) and Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) are urging all customers to consult their database of flood and salvage-titled vehicles before purchasing a car. That database now provides information on 31,000 such vehicles, the State MVC announced on Wednesday. It isn't illegal to sell vehicles with flood or salvaged titles. However, there are specific requirements that ensure potential purchasers are aware of the status of such vehicles, according to the MVC. “Damage sustained by vehicles must be disclosed to prospective buyers,” Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa said. “We will hold car dealers accountable for violating our Consumer Fraud Act if they fail to make such disclosures.” The database was …

Home buyouts in areas prone to flooding expected to start soon, though participation remains voluntary.
Buyouts of properties in flood prone areas are expected to begin within a matter of weeks, beginning in Middlesex County and working south into the summer months as residents and their respective town officials make the difficult decision to abandon entire neighborhoods for good. Though buyout specifics have been limited, Bob Martin, commissioner of New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection, said between eight and 10 towns along the coast have inquired about participating in the State’s Blue Acres program, which purchases severe repetitive loss homes in flood areas and converts the land into open space.
