LACEY, NJ -- The Lacey Board of Education suspended Superintendent Dr. Sandra Brower without pay Friday evening, nearly a week after she was indicted by a Monmouth County grand jury. Four board members voted to suspend Brower, 46, after she was charged with second-degree official misconduct, third-degree hindering apprehension and fourth-degree obstruction. Board members Eric Schubinger, Jack Martenak and Linda Downing abstained during the special meeting due to conflicts of interest because of family members who work for the district. “It’s a sad turn of events what happened here. Richard Stockton College of New Jersey Historical Studies Professor Dr. Robert Nichols has been awarded with his fourth Fulbright Grant, the college announced this week. The grant will go toward establishing an American Studies Graduate Degree program at Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan. The grant runs from August to mid-September of this year. “Dr. Nichols exemplifies the college’s commitment to global perspectives, which are one of the cornerstones of a Stockton education and a hallmark of the Stockton faculty,” College President Herman J. For the fourth year in a row, a team of high school students from the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Sciences (MATES) in Manahawkin was the winner of the New Jersey Envirothon, held Saturday, May 4 at Girl Scout Camp Kettle Run in Medford, the state's Department of Agriculture has announced. The team, consisting of Emily Golembiski of Little Egg Harbor, Jillian Hubbard of Toms River, Gillian Schriever of West Creek, Michael Signorelli of Toms River and Megan Tumpey of Brick, will represent New Jersey in the 2013 North American Envirothon at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana in August. Lacey school board members will have more to say about the indictment of schools Superintendent Sandra Brower at a special meeting on Friday night, Board President Eric J. Schubiger said this afternoon. The meeting will get underway at 8 p.m. in the lecture hall at Lacey Township High School, he said. "It will be open to the public," Schubiger said. Several board members earlier this week declined to comment on the matter and referred all press inquiries to Schubiger. This is already happened long ago! Their isn't that many American doctors left...they can't even get into Medical School. They have a quota, more foreigner get in from different parts of the country and maybe a few Americans a year. Same thing goes for all the colleges the foreigners get a free education at Ivy league colleges. Americans that have just as good records get pushed to the side. more ›
OCC second year student Nick Tyler to continue studying computer science after graduation this month
When Nick Tyler graduates from Ocean County College in Toms River, N.J. later this month, he'll do so with a dual mission in mind: continue his computer science studies at Kean University, then use his programming skills to make life easier for those with disabilities. For his efforts, Tyler has been chosen as Huffington Post's Greatest Person of the Day. Tyler, of Brick Township, N.J., relies on technology to help him navigate life on a daily basis to a much greater extent than most people. He was born with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, which has resulted in his having limited control of his arms and legs, as well as his voice. The attorney for Lacey Superintendent Sandra Brower, a former Wall district administrator, said the charges Tuesday that she tried to hide a possible sex-abuse case are “false and ridiculous.’’ Edward C. Bertucio, of the Red Bank-based firm Hobbie Corrigan & Bertucio, said he has asked for the “earliest possible trial date in an effort to gain the immediate exoneration of Sandra Brower, to clear her name and seek her reinstatement in her current position.’’ Brower, 46, of Allenwood-Lakewood Road in Wall, was indicted Monday on charges of official misconduct, hindering and obstruction. The 16 team members in the Barnegat Winter Guard and their manager made history this past weekend at the Atlantic Coast Championships, clinching first place. The competition began on Friday night, May 3rd with the preliminaries where the team scored an 85.10. The Semi-Finals, which was held at the Middle Township High School they received an 86.44. These scores taken together ranked them in first place in the SIG (Scholastic Intermediate Group). While most of the girls, along with the coaches stayed behind waiting on the scores, four of the team mothers transported seven girls on the team to their junior prom, which was held at the Camden Aquarium. The community came to grips Tuesday with the news that Lacey Schools Superintendent Sandra Brower faces charges that she failed to report a possible sex-abuse case while serving as a school administrator in Wall. Brower pleaded not guilty to the charges during an appearance Monday before Judge Francis J. Vernoia at the Monmouth County Courthouse in Freehold. No bail was set and Brower was released. She is scheduled to appear in court again on June 10 at 1:30 p.m. Lacey Mayor David Most said he respects Brower and the work she has done for the community. Lacey Township's schools superintendent was indicted Monday morning on charges she failed to immediately report a teacher's possible sexual assault of a 4-year-old special needs student while she was Wall Township's assistant superintendent, according to an indictment. Sandra Brower, 46, then lied to police and tried to cover up her inaction, according to the Monmouth County indictment. Brower, a Wall resident, is charged with second-degree official misconduct, third-degree hindering apprehension and fourth-degree obstruction, according to the indictment.
