Lacey Superintendent Failed To Report Possible Sex Abuse Of 4-Year-Old In Wall, Prosecutor Says

Sandra Brower, formerly an assistant superintendent in Wall, was indicted this morning in Monmouth County

Lacey Township's schools superintendent was indicted Monday morning on charges she failed to immediately report a teacher's possible sexual assault of a 4-year-old special needs student while she was Wall Township's assistant superintendent, according to an indictment. Sandra Brower, 46, then lied to police and tried to cover up her inaction, according to the Monmouth County indictment. Brower, a Wall resident, is charged with second-degree official misconduct, third-degree hindering apprehension and fourth-degree obstruction, according to the indictment. Brower was the assistant superintendent of Wall Township schools until November 2011. She is currently the superintendent of Lacey Township Schools in Ocean County. The Lacey school board…

Lacey Schools To Schedule Special Meeting About Brower Indictment

Under state statute, the school board could decide to suspend Brower without pay

The Lacey Township Board of Education is planning to hold a special meeting soon to deal with the ramifications of schools Superintendent Sandra Brower's indictment in Monmouth County. "We need to address this as quickly as possible," Board President Eric J. Schubiger said this afternoon. Schubiger said he had obtained a copy of the indictment from Board Attorney Arthur Stein today and reviewed the document. "The allegations presented in the indictment pertain to Dr. Brower's prior employment in Wall Towship," Schubiger said. "Mr. Stein is now reviewing the document. Stockton College Recommended for $54 Million in State Funds

The funding is for capital construction projects.

Following a positive vote on the "Building Our Future" bond act in the  November election, the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey acted quickly and is set to receive state funds for a pair of capital improvement projects. New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education Rochelle Hendricks has recommended the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey receive $54 million in state funds for capital construction projects, the college announced on Tuesday night, April 30. This includes $21.5 million for the college's Unified Science Center and $13.5 million for a 60,000-square-foot new classroom building. State funds will provide for 75 percent of the building costs, with the college providing the additional 25 percent. The projects are among 176 …

Over $440,000 Raised at Stockton College Scholarship Gala

A surprise performance from rocker Eddie Money highlighted a Richard Stockton College of New Jersey Scholarship Gala that raised more than $440,000, the college announced over the weekend. All proceeds go toward Stockton College Foundation’s fund-raising efforts aimed at reaching an additional $2 million goal for scholarships, according to a statement issued by the college. Thus far, the college has raised a total of $950,000 toward that goal, according to Stockton College President Herman J. Saatkamp. Registration Open for OCC Fall and Summer Classes

Ocean County College has also partnered with New Pathways to Teaching in New Jersey to offer an Introduction to the Teaching Profession 24-hour program

Ocean County College is now taking registration for summer and fall classes. For summer courses, those interested in attending college can register until Sunday, May 19 for the first five-week and ten-week session. Classes start Monday, May 20. Registration for the second five-week and six-week sessions goes until Tuesday, June 25. Classes start Monday, Aug. 5. Ocean County College is also taking registration for fall courses, which start Wednesday, Sept. 4 and run for 15 weeks. For some courses, students may be required to take the College Placement Test. New full-time students must complete orientation prior to registering. Students can register in-person Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays until 4 p.m. in the …

County Sees Growth in Gang Resistance Program

The entire seventh grade class of Lakewood Middle School and fifth grade students at the Walnut Street School in Toms River will soon graduate from the Gang Resistance Education and Training program

The G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program continues to grow throughout the county, as the Office of the Ocean County Prosecutor partners with law enforcement departments to prevent gang recruitment, Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato said. “Law enforcement must take proactive measures to prevent the spread of crime and violence,” he said. “The G.R.E.A.T. program does that for those we hold most precious — our children.” G.R.E.A.T. is a curriculum instructed by law enforcement officers to prevent delinquency, violence and gang membership. Pinelands Students Meet With President Obama

Students are winning team-members of the Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge.

President Obama yesterday hosted the White House Science Fair and celebrated the student winners of a broad range of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competitions from across the country - including Pinelands Regional High School. Dunfee Students Explore Space

Program included a personal video message to the school from NASA astronauts, filmed aboard the International Space Station.

Each year, Dunfee Elementary School's Music, Art, Science, Media Center, and Physical Education classes, along with the Bands and Chorus present a themed program, around which the entire year of study is based. This culminates in a presentation for families and the community where the students present what they have learned. This year, the theme was Dunfee Explores Space, and the school designed an elaborate program to showcase the student’s work. It has even resulted in an official NASA artist - who has designed several patches for shuttle and international space station missions - creating a special ‘mission patch’ for the students to commemorate this event, and a personal video message to the school from NASA astronauts, filmed aboard …
