BARNEGAT POLICE REPORT: Eight-miles-per-hour Driver on Route 72 Arrested on DWI Charge

Woman was followed by a line of cars.

Barnegat Township Police reported the following arrests in recent days: On Feburary 8th at 6:45 p.m., Patrolman Jim Purcell arrested Barbara Schmidt, 49, of Langhorne, PA for driving while intoxicated after responding to the area of Route 72 and Route 539 for multiple reports of an erratic driver. Upon arrival to the area, Purcell observed Schmidt's vehicle with a line of traffic behind it on Route 72. Schmidt's vehicle at that time was traveling eastbound at approximately 8 miles per hour. After stopping Schmidt's vehicle and conducting field sobriety tests, Purcell placed Schmidt under arrest for driving while intoxicated. BARNEGAT POLICE REPORT: Man Charged With DWI

Man also charged with resisting arrest.

A 22-year-old Barnegat Township man has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop on Dec. 2. Around 6:44 p.m., Ptl. Timothy Bradshaw arrested Max Hogdon 3rd, after observing Hogdon speeding and failing to yield for a stop sign on Bowline Street. During the course of the investigation, it was further determined that Hogdon had also struck a utility pole at the intersection of Bowline St and Commodore Ct. During the arrest, Hogdon resisted officer control and was subsequently charged with resisting arrest. Youth Accused in Stabbing at Barnegat Football Game

Barnegat youth suffered a stab wound to his left bicep.

A Barnegat youth was arrested and charged for allegedly stabbing another township youth, following a fight at the Barnegat-Red Bank football game at Barnegat High School on November 9 around 8:20 p.m. Barnegat police said they responded to a report of a fight and found the victim, an 18-year-old male from Barnegat, had suffered a stab wound to his left bicep during a fight with a 17-year-old Barnegat male. The confrontation had begun under the bleachers at the game before both parties agreed to continue the fight on Bengal Boulevard, near the entrance to the school. UPDATE: More than 300 Buckets of Supplies Distributed to Barnegat, Surrounding Areas

Batteries, flashlights, cleaning supplies and other items were available.

Crediting what they are calling "overwhelming community support," during a drive Saturday, the Barnegat Police Department PBA 296, OPEIU 32, and FOP 217 distributed more than 300 buckets filled with cleaning and more than 100 bags of cosmetic and personal hygiene products to the Barnegat, Long Beach Island and Toms River areas yesterday. Available items included batteries, flashlights, cleaning supplies, non-prescription medications, non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products, diapers, extension cords, dog/cat food, and paper products. Any Sandy victims were encouraged to "help themselves to what they need," according to a statement from Barnegat Police.

Update: Missing 12-Year-Old Barnegat Boy Found In Manahawkin

Jaleni Lewis-Castagna was reported missing around 7:15 p.m.

The search for a 12-year-old male, who was last in contact with his family at approximately 5 p.m. this evening, ended at approximately 9:30 p.m. when Jaleni Lewis-Castagna was found in the Manahawkin section of Stafford Township. Barnegat Police Lt. Keith Germain told Patch that the boy was located at the TGI Friday's. Germain said he had several people in the community that reported seeing the boy in the area of the Regal Cinema and Barnegat police located him in the restaurant a short time later. He said the boy was attempting to run away from his Nautillus Drive home, but he has been returned safely to his mother. "We greatly appreciate the community support. BARNEGAT POLICE REPORT: Two People Arrested For Drug Possession

A 20-year-old and a 17-year-old were arrested following a motor vehicle stop.

Two Barnegat residents have been arrested and charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana. On Oct. 3rd at 3:00pm, members of the Barnegat Police Narcotics Unit arrested Thomas Ragusa, 20, and a 17-year-old male juvenile, following a motor vehicle stop that was conducted on a car that the juvenile was driving and in which Ragusa was a passenger. Ragusa was processed and released with a summons for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana. The juvenile was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and was additionally served with motor vehicle summonses for obstructed windshield and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle before being released to his father.

Police: 2011 Investigations Yielded $40,000 in Seized Drugs, Cash, Property

Prescription drug and heroin charges made up more than half of possession arrests last year

The Barnegat Police Department has released details on its 2011 narcotics busts, showing police seized $40,000 in drugs, cash and property and arrested 60 people last year. Lt. Keith Germain said in a news release that with help from concerned citizens, the department's narcotics unit executed nine search warrants in 2011.  Of the possession arrests generated by the busts, 60 percent were for heroin or prescription drugs, according to department statistics. More than $14,000 in prescription medications and heroin were seized, police said.
