Revised Barnegat Website Expected by June 1

Resident Jake Taylor questioned why previous meetings that had been recorded by Morris Flory are no longer on Barnegat’s website.

Despite a few delays and setbacks, Barnegat Township Committeewoman Elaine Taylor said that the town website's anticipated overhaul should be ready by June 1. She said that many updates are being made, including the inclusion, on the website, of the mayor’s cell phone number so that citizens can reach him more easily. Mayor Len Morano has stated during several public meetings that he does not check his email and that email is a poor way to reach him.  Resident Jake Taylor questioned why previous meetings that had been recorded by Morris Flory are no longer on Barnegat’s website. Flory attended the meeting last night and made his own video of the meeting, which has been posted on YouTube. Taylor said that the films used to be on the site, …

I had to read this three times to make sure I got it right: "Mayor Len Morano has stated during several public meetings that he does not check his email and that email is a poor way to reach him." Is this a joke? In this day and age for a public official to not be reachable by email is mind-boggling.   more ›

Shoplifted Snickers Leads to Drug Arrest

Patrolman Robert Armstrong stopped a vehicle that matched a description provided by Wawa employees.

A 40-year-old Barnegat township man has been charged with shoplifting and drug possession after police said he was found with a stolen Snickers ice cream bar and prescription pills.  Richard Robins Jr. was arrested and charged May 7 after an investigation of a shoplifter at the Wawa on West Bay avenue, police said. Patrolman Robert Armstrong stopped a vehicle that matched a description provided by employees of the store, and found Robins in possession of the Snickers ice cream bar that store employees said he took without paying for, and oxycontin tablets which were not prescribed to him, police said. Barnegat Officials Continue Shopping For Televised-Meeting Provider

Website overhaul also soon to be unveiled.

Barnegat Township officials say they are in the process of getting bids for local cable access companies to televise the often-lively regular Township Committee meetings, which are held on alternative Mondays throughout the month. Questioned by a resident Monday about where the bid process stood, Committeewoman Elaine Taylor said there are an array of packages that are being offered by a number of different companies, and she is currently reviewing them all to get the most out of the bid process. She declined to give exact amounts of the bids, noting that they would have to be voted on during a meeting before any could be accepted. Meanwhile, resident Morris Flory attended the meeting and made his own video of the meeting, which has been …

Unfortunately there was no televised township meeting when Mr. Morano and the Democrats filled an unnecessary job with their campaign treasurer. A payback that the taxpayers are paying for. The democrats promised they would find ways to reduce spending, however, they seem to keep finding ways to spend more. I wonder if the best bid for televised meetings will coincidentally come from one of their…   more ›

Heroin Deaths Prompt Task Force

Several overdoses in Southern Ocean County reported in recent weeks.

All last year, there were 53 drug overdoses reported in Ocean County. In the first three months of this year, there have been 43 overdoses - nine of which occurred over an eight-day period in April. Five of those were related to heroin, according to Al Della Fave, with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. That spike in overdoses has prompted officials with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office to team up with Atlantic County officials to form a task force to tackle what several law enforcement officials have dubbed a heroin "crisis" in the area. Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato has established a northern and southern task force to "communicate across the board with surrounding municipalities about where the product is coming into …
