Hours at Disaster Recovery Centers to Change

Set up to provide assistance in towns affected by Hurricane Sandy, the recovery centers are introducing new, reduced hours.

Disaster Recovery Centers opened in towns affected by Hurricane Sandy are subject to new, reduced hours of operation beginning Monday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced Thursday. On Monday, April 8, all of New Jersey's remaining disaster recovery centers will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Saturday hours will remain 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Previously, the centers were open an additional hour on weekdays. Now, six months following Sandy, nine disaster recovery centers remain open throughout the state, located in towns in Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic, Cape May, and Hudson Counties. There have been more than 85,000 visits to New Jersey centers since opening in early November, according to FEMA. Those …

Turned Down FEMA Housing Aid? Still Time to Apply for Help

Victims with home damage can still seek temporary housing assistance

Residents who turned down the opportunity of FEMA housing assistance have another chance to receive temporary aid. Sandy victims who elected not to relocate while repairs were made at their homes became ineligible for FEMA assistance. If that decision proved to be unwise, residents can apply for aid by: Sandy victims can follow up on applications at DisasterAssistance.gov or by a web-enabled mobile device at m.FEMA.gov.  Help also is available at FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers:

Two Additional Disaster Recovery Centers Open in Ocean County

Harvey Cedars and Little Egg Harbor newly opened

Those affected by Hurricane Sandy can now visit two newly opened Disaster Recovery Centers in Ocean County, according to the Governor's office. The centers are located on Long Beach Island in Harvey Cedars and Little Egg Harbor Township. There are now 33 DRCs open daily. All are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the exception of Bay Head, which is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while a curfew remains in effect. The DRCs allow residents to speak one on one to recovery representatives, and have questions answered about recovery programs. FEMA program specialists also provide registration and other information. These include mitigation specialists who can provide guidance on cost-effective rebuilding and repair techniques to reduce property damage…
