FEMA Official Says 900 From Monmouth-Ocean Remain in Shelters

Township Administrator notes FEMA assessing need before deciding to place trailers in Stafford.

About 900 Monmouth and Ocean County residents are still in shelters or hotels after Hurricane Sandy forced people from their homes, a Federal Emergency Management Administration official said. Tom Davies, FEMA's liaison to Ocean County, said there are about 300 people are in shelters, 500 in hotels and St. Mary's is providing shelter for an additional 100 people. "People are still in shelters and our aim is to get them into transitional housing," Davies said at the Toms River Township Council Meeting on Tuesday. "This could take time." Loved Ones Remember Ana Kopack for Her Smiles, Hugs and Wisdom

Ana Kopack, 10, of Lanoka Harbor lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 26

Looking up to someone generally entails admiring someone of greater wisdom and experience, which usually comes with age. But in Lacey, many look up to someone of lesser stature, 10-year-old Anastasia Kopack. “She was 10 and she helped an 18-year-old girl through so much. If it wasn't for her I wouldn’t be where I am… She was amazing, and she could relate to so much at such a young age,” Rachel Lynn Inglis said of Ana. On Wednesday, Sept. 26 Ana, 10, lost her battle with cancer. She was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in March 2011. Although declared cancer free just more than a month ago, she started getting headaches and the doctors found a brain tumor. The tumor was removed successfully but others were found. …

Services Set for Anastasia Kopack

Funeral to be held Saturday at St. Pius in Forked River, with a burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Manahawkin

Services have been scheduled for Anastasia Kopack, 10, of Lanoka Harbor, who lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday, Kopack passed away at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, according to her obituary. She was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in March 2011. She traveled to St. Christopher’s often for treatments. Kopack had graduated from Lanoka Harbor Elementary School, where she played the trumpet with her school band, her obituary said. She was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, a part of their religious education program and the youth choir group. She was also a member of Girl Scout Troop #264.
