A Waretown man was in custody after a motor vehicle stop led to a police chase down Route 9. Lacey Township Officer Dimitrios Tsarnas observed a vehicle with fictitious registration plates and conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Route 9 and the Oyster Creek Generating Station on April 6 at 10:30 p.m., Chief David Paprota said. The vehicle, driven by David Donnamaria, 45, of Waretown, fed the scene, Paprota said. Officer Tsarnas pursued the car to the parking lot of Longshots Bar on Route 9 in Waretown where Donnamaria was arrested, Paprota said. Two Waretown men were arrested for allegedly stealing from a Lacey business. Patrick Cornelius, 23, and Michael Pansulla, 26, were arrested by Lacey Police for allegedly stealing three air condensing units valued at $1,500 from a secured area in the Lacey Business Park. Cornelius and Pansulla were identified by police with the help of a surveillance video, information from citizens and emails from the crime tip portion of the Lacey Police website. The two men were charged with theft of moveable property and released on their own recognizance pending a court appearance.

Towns will share a construction officer; Waretown's construction officer let go.
Officials in Barnegat Township and Waretown met jointly last night and agreed to authorize another shared service agreement - this time for construction officer - Louis Fischer. David Breeden, who serves as administrator for both towns, said Waretown's inspector - Ed Lavare - was let go at 4 p.m. yesterday. Lavare could not be reached immediately for comment last night. Breeden said officials in both towns opted to hold the meeting before the end of the year, because if Lavare was allowed to begin the year, there would have been lead time obligations, like vacation days, that Waretown would have had to pay out. A 31-year-old Waretown man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hate crime that occurred last New Year's Eve in Sayreville. Federal agents arrested Christopher Ising this morning on an indictment that charges him with conspiracy to commit a hate crime, as well as the actual commission of a hate crime assault, in violation of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr., Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Ising, a purported member of the white supremacist organization known as the “Atlantic City Skins,” is scheduled to make his initial court appearance later today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Due to safety concerns for the children and residents east of Route 9, the Township of Ocean is teaming up with the Waretown United Methodist Church to assist in their idea of "Trunk or Treat." This event will take place at the Waretown Methodist Church parking lots located at 27 Bryant Road, Waretown. On Monday, November 5, 2012 at 5:00 p.m., volunteers who would like to participate in giving out treats are asked to come with your car/truck or a table to setup in their parking lots to give treats instead of your home. At 5:30, p.m., children in costumes will be trick or treating from car to car to get their bag full of candy. Proceeds benefit Founder's Day Events and Waretown Volunteer Fire Company #1.
Halloween enthusiasts of all ages will visit Waretown Lake for a haunted hayride this weekend and a party next weekend, all to benefit a good cause. For just $5, riders will be treated to several skits surrounding the lake. The hayriders can then vote on the top skits. Winners will be treated to five cash prizes of $450, $250, $125, $75, and $50. Next weekend, the Halloween fun continues as the Waretown Fire Company #1 opens its doors for a "Spooktacular Costume Party." The 18 and over costume party will feature a DJ, cash bar, and music by the Party Crashers. Admission for this event is $15. Proceeds from the events will benefit the fire company.

Volunteers organized by the state Department of Environmental Protection will give the Barnegat Bay watershed a cleaning this week. The state's third Barnegat Bay Blitz is set to take place Thursday, and officials say they expect thousands of volunteers to roll up their sleeves and work to tidy up the estuary before winter sets in. The cleanups target a wide variety of locations, including wetlands, stream banks, stormwater discharge points, school grounds, trails, docks, areas around bulkheads, and the bay itself. The cleanup will also take place on uninhabited islands in the bay. The effort will include several partner organizations, including local companies and schools. A 40-year-old Waretown woman has been arrested and charged with heroin possession and other charges after a motor vehicle stop. On Oct. 9, at 7:00 p.m., members of the Barnegat Police Narcotics Unit arrested and charged Maryann Vandevelde on drug charges stemming from a motor vehicle stop conducted on Route 9. During the stop, officers conducted a consent search of the vehicle that led to the arrest for possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, distribution of heroin, possession of Suboxone (all 3rd degree), and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on her own recognizance pending a court date.

First hand account of the accident that took the life of a 45-year-old Waretown man.
When John Guinta stepped outside his home to light his grill Tuesday afternoon, he had no idea what was about to unfold. As he lit his grill and waited for it to heat up, he walked around to the front of his house, as he always does, located on the corner of Route 9 and Clearwater Drive. "I saw the motorcycle coming down Rt. 9 North as I turned the corner and went back to my grill," Guinta said. The next thing he knew, there was a loud crash in the front of his house. A custodian at the Walnut Street Elementary School in Toms River has been arrested on child pornography charges. Stephen Tisch, 27, of Waretown was arrested this morning after members of the Ocean Township police and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office High Tech Crimes Unit executed a search warrant on his Dock Avenue home, Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said. Tisch is alleged to have distributed pornographic images of children. “Tisch is employed as a custodian at the Walnut Street Elementary School in Toms River, and apparently has been so employed for the past seven years.
