Manahawkin Woman Pleads For Help In Mother's Unsolved Death; Reward Increased

Carol Reiff's death in Gloucester Township is a criminal investigation, even though a cause of death has not been determined

A Manahawkin woman fought back tears Monday morning when she spoke about donations toward a growing reward for tips in the unsolved death of her mother, Carol Reiff.

"Our community, the communities in general, have overwhelmed us with their generosity," Dawn Centanni  40, of Manahawkin, said while sitting next to her husband, Louis, in the Gloucester Township municipal courtroom. "We're so thankful."

The reward has grown from just about $1,000 to $20,000 in the month since Reiff's remains were found in a wooded area of the Lakeview Apartments where she lived. Centanni last spoke to her mother on a Thursday, June 20, before a planned day at the beach on Friday. Reiff never showed up and her body was found on Monday. It was badly decomposed and a cause of death has not been determined, investigators said.

Reiff, 59, was an avid jogger. Several of her neighbors said they would see her at all hours of the day running. Some also described the complex, on Lower Landing Road near the busy Route 42 Freeway as a "jungle."

Centanni said a running club they both belonged to contributed money to the reward. Reiff's employer, Admiral Insurance of Mount Laurel, contributed more than $9,000.

Anyone with information on Reiff's death is urged to contact Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Investigator Chuck Farrell at 856-225-8653 or Gloucester Township Police Det. Bill Westphal at 856-228-4500.
