UPDATE: Two Airlifted To Trauma Center After Head-On Collision On Route 72

Written by Patch Editor Patricia A. Miller

Two men were seriously injured in a head-on collision on Route 72 near Hull Road this morning, Stafford Township police said.

Harold Critelli, 78, Manahawkin and Aaron Borden, 43, Philadelphia, were both airlifted to Atlanticare Medical Center after the 8:30 p.m. accident, police said.

Critelli was traveling west on Route 72 in his 2012 Nissan Altima and Borden was traveling eastbound when his 1998 Dodge Ram swerved into the westbound lane to avoid a car that had slowed down to make a left turn. The two vehicles collided head-on, police said.

Both men were listed in stable condition late this afternoon. Antonio Diaz, 41, Philadelphia - a passenger in the Borden vehicle - received facial injuries when the airbag deployed and was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Borden will be issued summonses for driving with a suspended license and careless driving. The accident is under investigation by Patrolman Justin Pascale of the traffic safety bureau, police said

Hull Road is west of the Garden State Parkway in the western portion of the Ocean Acres community.
