Waretown Man Turns Himself In After Barnegat Police Post Picture On Facebook

Barnegat police arrested a Waretown man today on several charges less than 24 hours after asking for the public's help to identify a person on the department's Facebook page.

Charles Parkhill III, 26, turned himself in to Detective Maryann Cirulli at the police department at 1:15 p.m. He was charged in connection with the use of a stolen debit card at Meyer's Liquors on Route 9 on August 8.

Cirulli received several phone calls from concerned citizens identifying Parkhill as the subject in the surveillance photos only hours after posting the surveillance pictures taken inside and outside the store.

Parkhill contacted Cirulli shortly after seeing the surveillance photo of himself posted on Facebook and agreed to turn himself in. He was charged with computer criminal activity and theft of property lost and released pending a court date, police said.

The case marks the fourth time that the Barnegat Police Department has sought the community's assistance in identifying a suspect via Facebook. In each case, the suspect was successfully identified by a concerned citizen who saw the Facebook posting.

"The Barnegat Police Department continues to be appreciative of the support and assistance provided by our residents who continue to be valued partners in our shared pursuit of keeping the community safe," the Facebook page states.
